How to create Pivot tables in Excel 2007
Pivot tables help to analyze and summarize data. The first question you must ask yourself is what would you like to display in your pivot table. Once this is decided you have a good chance of creating an excellent pivot table. However, the good news is that the creation and destruction of the pivot tables takes seconds and therefore if you are not happy with the extracted information you can quickly create another view. The following training video demonstrates the creation of pivot tables to extract meaningful information from your Excel data.
Our example is about a manager working in a travel agency. He has created lovely and quite expensive brochures which he wishes to mail to a target audience. To be effective he wishes to target the right prospects. He realizes that he should sent the brochures only to travelers who really have a good travel budget. Based on the data that he has he is not able to decide. He then uses the pivot table and pivot chart feature in Microsoft Excel step by step to find a solution. The raw data was taken from Microsoft® Office Excel® 2007: Data Analysis and Business Modeling (Bpg — Other). Inspite of a few shortcomings this is an excellent book to learn data analysis.
How to add labels to the pivot chart:
Select the chart.
Right click on one of the columns.
Select ‘Add Labels’.
Select ‘Value’ from label options.
If you wish to add more options like ‘category name’ again right click on one of the columns.
Select ‘Format Data Labels’.
In the label options you can add ‘category name’ and ‘value’.
The data is displayed inside the bars as shown.
