How to convert numerical text into numbers in Excel

Convert numbers stored as text in an Excel worksheet to numbers

Sometimes you may get data from different sources like from a database and when you try to analyze the numerical data, you realize that you can’t even conduct an ‘auto-filter’ on the data. Why is that so? Most probably Excel doesn’t recognize the data as numbers. The alignment to the left of such data in many cases indicates that although numbers are being displayed, Excel treats them like text. Using simple arithmetic techniques you can convert the numerical text into true numerical data which is aligned to the right in the worksheet cells. You can now perform all kinds of arithmetical operations and analysis on the data.
